These posts fall into three broad categories that either directly or indirectly convey that change is not the top priority in response to George Floyd’s death. Instead, these posts reflect the notion that reform is at best secondary to the need to work within the current system, overlooking experiences and fears of those disadvantaged by a White hegemonic framework: (1) police brutality reflects bad actors and not systemic flaws; (2) unity and commonalities should be prioritized over differences; (3) protests should be strictly non-violent (operationalized below in Table 1).
